NOPD: Teen Charged In Man's Shooting Death

The New Orleans Police Department have arrested a local teenager in the connection with the shooting death of a 33-year-old man.
The shooting happened in the 1900 block of Joliet Street Saturday at about 10:45 p.m. Police said 18-year-old Kevin Franklin was identified as the person responsible. He was arrested in his home Sunday at 6:50 a.m.
According to investigators, Second District officers responded to a call of “male down,” and upon their arrival, found the victim lying on the ground suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the body.
Emergency medical technicians were summoned to the scene, where the victim was pronounced dead.
Police are not releasing the victim’s name until family members have been notified, but they said they believe he may be from out of the country.
Residents said they were worried about what they believed to be rising crime and called on young people to stay away from bad influences.
“It’s really hard to accept because the crime is really high all over,” said one resident.
Franklin was charged with 2nd degree murder and possession of narcotics. He is being held in Central Lockup.
